| Pathway of sperm. Animation showing the path of sperm, the male gamete (sex cell), from the testes to ejaculation. Sperm are produced within the testes (ovals) in seminiferous tubules. From here they move to the epididymis (coiled structures around testes) where they mature. When the penis becomes erect, mature sperm move from the epididymis to the vas deferens (tubes). Secretions are added to the sperm from the seminal vesicles (light brown) to form seminal fluid. This then passes through the prostate gland (purple) where fluid is added to form semen. The semen travels down the urethra, leaving the penis at ejaculation. | |
