Pinocytosis in a blood capillary. Animation of the process of pinocytosis, a form of endocytosis that transports small particles and vesicles between cells. This phenomenon operates continuously in eukaryotic cells to promote the uptake of membrane fragments or (as shown here) to engulf some molecules or solutes. A membrane vesicle (green) containing the substance is formed and crosses the endothelium cell of the capillary. The substance is then released into the capillary lumen.
