Hydrogen bonds in DNA, animation. DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) is composed of two strands that are twisted around each other to form a double helix. Each strand consists of a sugar-phosphate backbone attached to nucleotide bases. There are four bases: adenine, cytosine, guanine and thymine which are joined together by hydrogen bonds. The first frame shows the two complementary bases adenine and thymine forming two hydrogen bonds (white). The second frame shows three hydrogen bonds being formed between guanine and cytosine. | |
