Vesicle transport, animation. Large, macromolecules are often transported across the cell via membrane-bound vesicles. Here, a membrane forms around a group of molecules (blue) via a process known as membrane fission. A small circular membrane (vesicle) is formed and separates from the cellular compartment to which it belongs. The vesicle moves across the cell and fuses to another compartment, transferring the molecules that it contains. | |
