Bladder evacuation during TURP (transurethral resection of the prostate) biopsy procedure. During TURP, tissue from the inner part of the prostate is excised to treat the symptoms of urethral obstruction due to benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlargement of the prostate) or prostate cancer. The excised tissue is continuously flushed into the bladder with irrigation fluid. Here, the surgeon is using bladder evacuators to remove fluid containing prostate tissue and blood from the patient's bladder. These samples may be biopsied to test for cancer. | |
