3D Lissajous curves animation. Lissajous curves (also called Bowditch curves) are mathematical graphs of a set of parametric equations that describe complex harmonic motion. For 3D Lissajous curves the x and y and z values of the graphs are given by sinusoidal equations with time (t) and angle (delta) parameters. The equations used here are: x=sin(w1*time+delta1); y=B*sin(w2*time); z=sin(w3*time+delta2). In this animation, two different Lissajous curves with different w1:w2:w3 ratios are plotted, with delta increasing from 0 to 360 degrees. The curves are named for US mathematician Nathaniel Bowditch and French mathematician Jules Antoine Lissajous who investigated them in the 19th century. | |
