Mastocyte releasing histamine, animation. During inflammation injured mastocytes(mast cells) release histamine. This causes surrounding blood vessels to dilate and become more permeable. This allows immune cells such as leukocytes , and blood plasma proteins to travel to the site of infection and heal injured tissue. At top right is a molecular diagram of a histamine molecule, with a structural representation of the molecule below it. | |
