Timelapse of a bright Iridium flash over a house. These satellite flares or glints are caused by the reflective surfaces on satellites (such as antennas or solar panels). These surfaces reflect the sunlight directly onto the Earth below and a brief, bright flare appears. This particular flare was caused by reflections from the antenna of an Iridium communication satellite. The types of flares caused by these satellites are the brightest in the night sky.
