Animation showing the path (yellow arrow) of effector T cells through a transparent human torso (anterior view) from a lymph node near the site of infection (skin wound on the forearm). Following activation, the effector T cells drain from the cubital lymph node in the forearm, through efferent lymphatic vessels and towards the thoracic duct. Here the effector T cells enter the bloodstream at the left brachiocephalic vein and are circulated through the body. Finally the path reaches the infected region on the forearm.
