Animation showing antibody action on target antigens at the site of injury. Antibodies (Y shaped proteins) produced by effector B cells in the lymph node, migrate via lymph and blood to the site of infection. Here they bind to their specific target antigen (brown). This binding leads either to direct neutralisation of the antigen, or to tagging, whereby the antigen is marked for destruction by other mechanisms in the immune system. Antibodies are key to adaptive humoral immunity. | |
