Black widow spider (Latrodectus hesperus) starts to wrap fly trapped in its web, but backs off as the fly struggles to escape. Female black widows of this species have leg spans of approximately 4 cm and are distinguished by the bright red hourglass pattern on the underside of the abdomen. While probably the most feared spider, black widows are not aggressive and their bites are rarely fatal to humans. | |
