Harvestman (Phalangium opilio), or daddy long legs, scurrying over ground. With eight legs they are often confused with spiders but they belong to a separate order of arachnids. Unlike spiders, their two main body parts (abdomen and cephalothorax) are joined, not separate. They are also unable to produce silk or venom. Also, unlike spiders which typically have eight eyes, harvestmen have only a single pair and a few species are blind. This species is found throughout Europe, Asia, North America, North Africa, and New Zealand. |
