Flat rock scorpion (Hadogenes troglodytes) responding to scientist prodding it by turning toward him and raising its claws. Scorpion species with small, less venomous stings, like this one, must rely more on their claws to deter predators. This species is native to most of southern Africa and its flattened body is ideal for slipping into narrow cracks and crevices. | |
