Emperor scorpion (Pandinus imperator) feeding on cockroach it has just caught. Scorpions feed using claw-like mouthparts called chelicerae which are hidden behind their grasping claws. Since it can only eat food in liquid form, a scorpion must first secrete digestive juices from its gut to spread on bits of food to dissolve them. The emperor scorpion is native to much of Africa and can reach 20 cm in length. | |
