Honeybees (Apis mellifera) pulling dead pupa out of brood cell. Honeybees are able to smell dead pupae in their cells and will remove them once discovered. This one may have been a victim of a disease like Foul Brood (AFB) or from being parasitized by a varroa mite. One adult can be seen extending its proboscis deep into the eye cavity of the larva as it feeds on the larva's remains. | |
