Indian meal moth (Plodia interpunctella) larva squirming as braconid wasp (Hebrobracon hebetor), barely 3mm in size, injects eggs into its body using needle-like ovipositor. Braconids are parasitoids which means they are parasites only during the larval stage of their life cycles. When the wasp's eggs hatch, they will feed on the larvae, eating them from the inside out. These tiny wasps, and thousands of other species like them, are considered beneficial to humans as they control populations of agricultural pests. | |
