Macro shot of the stinging trichomes on the leaf and stem of a stinging nettle (Urtica dioica). The stinging nettle is a common plant in much of the northern hemisphere, and is well known for its painful sting. The stings are due to the sharp trichomes, which inject a mixture of chemicals, including histamine, into the skin when touched. Filmed in Denmark. | |
