Angiography video of venography (phlebology) procedure in a 31-year-old patient showing left subclavian vein affected by stenosis (narrowing). This is to be treated with angioplasty, the widening of an artery that has become narrowed through disease. This typically occurs due to a build-up of atheroma, a cholesterol-rich plaque, on the inside wall of the artery. This is common in patients with high blood pressure. During the procedure, a balloon is introduced into the narrowed part of the artery and then inflated, which forces open the artery, permitting normal blood flow. Angiography is an imaging technique in which a radio-opaque contrast medium is injected into blood vessels to allow them to be seen on an X-ray. | |
