Active galaxy Centaurus A (NGC 5128), a radio-loud active galactic nucleus (AGN). It is thought that Centaurus A represents the merger of an elliptical and a spiral galaxy, since elliptical galaxies would not have had enough dust and gas to form the young, blue stars seen along the edges of the dust lane. At the end the view switches to an infrared image, which reveals a ring of stars and star clusters around the small nucleus. Centaurus A lies around 15 million light years from Earth in the constellation Centaurus.<br>Restrictions: |
