Zoom in to the Helix Nebula (NGC 7293), a planetary nebula some 700 light years away in the constellation Aquarius. The shells of gas were ejected by a Sun-like star at the end of its life, which has since become a hot white dwarf star. The pink glow of the gas shells comes from hydrogen ionised by the intense ultraviolet radiation from the 120, 000 degree Celsius central star.<br>Restrictions: |
