Panning over alternating visible light and infrared images of the Flame Nebula (NGC 2024 and Sh2-277) and Horsehead Nebula region. In visible light (from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey), nebulae are red pink and dust is black, and both are effective blockers of background light. In infrared (from the VISTA telescope), nebulae and dust are far more transparent. This nebulosity lies some 1500 light years from Earth in the constellation Orion.<br>Restrictions: |
