Wizard Island rises above Crater Lake in Crater Lake National Park, Oregon. The crater is a caldera created when the 3, 660 meter-high Mt. Mazama collapsed following an eruption 7, 700 years ago. The source of water for the lake is winter snow that averages 1, 354 cm per year. It is the world's seventh deepest lake at nearly 600 meters and has no outlet. The lake is 10 km across at its widest point. The cliffs surrounding the lake are over 500 meters high. The island is a new volcano that has formed since the collapse. | |
