Old Faithful geyser erupts in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming. Eruptions occur about every 90 minutes and typically last for one to two minutes, reaching a height of over 50 meters. Eruptions occur when groundwater comes in contact with hot rocks heated by a large magma reservoir that lies directly beneath the park at a depth of just a few kilometers. The magma rises from a hotspot within the earth's mantle, and is responsible for all of the geothermal activity found in the park. | |
