Lacrymaria olor, the ''swan'', extends it long neck into pond debris feeding on bacteria and algae. This ciliated protozoan measures about 75 microns when contracted but can reach a length of 200 microns when extended. It is found in ponds, lakes and streams throughout much of the world.
