Pair of false clown anemonefish (Amphiprion ocellaris) tending their eggs amongst the tentacles of a magnificent anemone (Heteractis magnifica). The eggs are laid on the surface of a rock before being fertilised by the male. Between 100 and 1000 eggs are laid, which take 6 to 8 days to hatch. Anemonefish have a symbiotic relationship with their host anemones. They are protected from predators by the stinging tentacles of the anemones (to which they are immune), and the fish clean the anemones by feeding on small parasitic plants and animals.
