Ectropion in an 86 year old male patient. This is a condition in which the lower eyelid droops and turns outwards, often caused by a loss of muscle tone in the periorbital muscles. It typically occurs with age, but can also be caused by nerve issues or damage to the eyelid. Ectropion can affect one or both eyes and can disrupt the normal drainage of tears, causing discomfort, dryness, excessive watering, and an increased risk of infections. The treatment for ectropion depends on the severity and underlying cause of the condition. More severe cases may require surgery. | |
