Mucocoele on the lip of a 22 year old female patient. This is a benign, fluid-filled swelling that forms on the inner lip. They usually develop when a salivary gland duct becomes blocked, leading to the accumulation of saliva beneath the surface of the mucous membrane. They typically appear as painless, soft, translucent bumps. Mucocoeles are often caused by trauma such as accidental biting or salivary gland disorders. They are usually painless and do not cause serious complications. If they become bothersome, they can be treated with surgery, laser therapy or cryotherapy. | |
