Tinea on the leg of a 68 year old female patient. Tinea, also known as ringworm, is a condition caused by a fungal infection of the skin. The main symptom is a rash and severe itching. The rash may look red or darker than the surrounding skin, depending on the skin tone. It can occurs anywhere on the body or the face but it is more common in skin folds. It also more commonly occurs in warmer climates. The disease is highly contagious, and can be spread by direct contact or by contact with contaminated material.
