Damage caused by feral swine (family Suidae), USA. Swine are not native to the Americas, and have been brought by humans on multiple occasions since the 1500s. Following escape, wild populations gradually grew and are now found in huge numbers across most of the US. Feral swine can damage lawns, native habitats and pasturelands by trampling, wallowing and rooting through them. This damage amounts to approximately $1.5 billion each year. | |
