Nucleated red blood cells in placental blood vessels. Light micrograph (LM) of a section from an affected placenta. Release of nucleated red blood cells (nRBCs) into the peripheral blood occurs in stillbirths/neonates with a probable hypoxic mode of death and antenatal stress. The number of nRBCs in the placenta may relate to the occurrence of intradural (IDH) and subdural haemorrhage (SDH) and the potential link with foetal hypoxia. Mag: x60 when printed at 10 centimetres wide. Human tissue.
