The broad centurion (Chloromyia formosa) is a soldier fly and a member of the Stratiomyidae family. The males are easily distinguishable by the coppery green metallic sheen. Adults are mostly seen from April through to August feeding on the nectar of flowers. The larvae develop in rich humus soil feeding on dead leaves and other decaying vegetation. Photographed in Somerset, UK, in June. | |
