The marsh snipe fly (Rhagio tringarius), is a largish insect and a member of the Rhagionidae family. It is found throughout Europe and its usual habitats are wet meadows, hedgerows and areas of rich vegetation. The larvae of this snipe fly dwell in the ground, on litter and detritus. They are predatory hunters, feeding on small beetles and earthworms. Photographed in Somerset, UK, in June. | |
