The brown argus butterfly (Aricia agestis) is a member of the family Lycaenidae. Whilst a member of the family of blue butterflies both sexes are brown in colour, although they can be mistaken with the female Common Blue. The flight period is April to September with two generations, this genus occurs across Europe and the Palearctic ecozone. The larvae feed on a variety of plants including Common Rock-rose, Common Stork's-bill and Dove's-foot Cranesbill. Photographed in Somerset, UK, in August. | |
