Cutaneous horn on the ear of an 87 year old male patient. This is a growth that appears as a cone-shaped, horn-like projection on the skin. It is caused by overgrowth of the most superficial layer of skin (epidermis) and is made of compact keratin. This condition typically affects older adults and those with fairer skin tones who have significant sun exposure. Treatment depends on the nature of the lesion which can be benign, precancerous or cancerous. Methods include cryotherapy, topical chemotherapy, curettage and surgery. | |
