Composite image of the Reflection nebulae NGC 6589 and NGC 6590 (two blue clouds, upper centre). They are located in the constellation Sagittarius. Both nebulas are flanked by the red emission nebula IC 1284 (red cloud, top). NGC 6589 and NGC 6590 are classed as reflection nebulae as they shine only because they reflect the light of nearby stars. This region of the Milky Way is rich with dust clouds and young stars which together produce the reflection nebulae. This image was created using data acquired from Fair Dinkum Skies in Western Australia (an affiliation of New Mexico Skies and Pingelly Heights Observatory). | |
