Ear infection. Pus leaking from the ear of a three year old girl with glue ear, or otitis media. Glue ear is an inflammation of the middle ear associated with pus and fluid. It is caused by an infection. This infection has also caused a perforated (torn) eardrum, or tympanic membrane, which can reduce hearing. Glue ear is treated with antibiotics, although severe cases may require surgical draining. The perforated eardrum should heal within a month or so, but if badly damaged it may require surgery. | |
