World War II bomb damage, Bank Underground station, London, UK. People used London Underground stations as shelters from bombs during the Second World War (1939-45). On the 11th January 1941, a bomb fell above Bank Underground station, resulting in the death of 56 people. The most intense period of bombardment, known as the Blitz, took place 1940-1941.
