Herbert Hendin (1926-2019), US psychiatrist. Hendin studied at Columbia University, New York, City, and the medical school of New York University and spent most of his academic career at the two institutions. He is best known for his work on suicide. He studied the subject in Scandinavian, Chinese and African American populations as well as in military veterans, university students and substance abusers. He founded two national foundations, Suicide Prevention Initiatives (SPI) and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. | |
