Tuberculous endometritis, light micrograph. Endometrial tuberculosis (tuberculous endometritis) is rare in the western world but still commonly seen in the developing and underdeveloped countries. This image shows granulomas with giant cells (upper left) in the endometrial mucosa. Secondary bacterial infection is commonly present resulting in accumulation of lymphocytes, plasma cells, and neutrophils. The diagnosis requires demonstration of acid-fast bacilli in granulomas using acid-fast stains or by urine culture. | |
