Leeuwenhoek was one of the first microscopists and microbiologists and is commonly referred to as the 'father of microbiology'. He was a pioneer in the study and description of microbes, which he referred to as animalcules. His pioneering work 'Arcana naturae detecta', published in 1695 was compiled of 92 letters written by Leeuwenhoek of his findings to members of the Royal Society. | |
