Light micrograph of glomeruli in a kidney with diabetic nephropathy, or kidney disease caused by diabetes. Diabetic disease in the kidneys often forms characteristic nodules (the round pink structures) in glomeruli of the affected kidneys. One such glomerulus is seen in this image. There is also a hyalinized arteriole (ring-shaped pink structure with a few red dots inside, right side of image), which is also characteristically seen in kidneys affected by diabetes. Haematoxylin and eosin stained tissue section. Magnification: 200x when printed at 10 cm.
