Image of the Orion capsule and the far side of the Moon taken from a camera on the tip of one of Orion's solar arrays during the sixth day of the Artemis I mission. On this day Orion came within 128 kilometres of the lunar surface, its closest approach. Artemis I, which launched on the 16th November 2022, is the first uncrewed test flight of NASA's Artemis program. It will orbit both the Earth and Moon and travel beyond the Moon. The furthest distance Orion will be from Earth is 450, 000 kilometres. This is longer and further than any spacecraft designed to carry humans has flown before. The Artemis program aims to land the first woman and the next man on the Moon by 2024. Photographed on 21st November 2022. | |
