Satellite image of southeast Australia showing average carbon monoxide (CO) concentrations from 1 November 2019 to 31 January 2020. The carbon monoxide was released from bushfires. The 2019-2020 bushfire season was unprecedented in intensity and size. In southeast Australia approximately 74, 000 square kilometres of land, mostly eucalyptus forest, burnt. High levels of carbon monoxide in the atmosphere can reduce the amount of oxygen that the blood can carry. Data obtained by the Copernicus Sentinel-5P satellite. | |
