Indian boxwood, or Ceylon boxwood (Gardenia latifolia). It is found in the forests of Madhya Pradesh in India, and has been widely cultivated elsewhere, to the point of naturalization, especially in Nigeria, where the tree is highly valued for both its fruit and shade. Copperplate engraving from the 'Encyclopaedia Londinensis, or universal dictionary of arts, sciences, and literature' Volume VIII. Edited by Wilkes, John. Published in London in 1810. | |
