| Foetal kidney, light micrograph. The developing kidney shows many primitive renal corpuscles in the cortex forming at the tips of the growing branches of the ureteric buds. Renal tubules and collecting tubules with further development will join with the collecting ducts seen as radial structures converging medially towards the large open renal pelvis. Development and completion of the maximum numbers of glomeruli from the renal corpuscles occurs in foetal life. Paraffin section, alcian blue, and haematoxylin and eosin stain. Magnification: x16 when width printed at 10cm. | |
