Delboeuf optical illusion, illustration. Despite appearing to be different sizes, the two fuchsia circles on the left have the same diameter, and the two fuchsia circles on the right are also the same size. This illusion was created by the Belgian philosopher Franz Joseph Delboeuf - the Delboeuf Illusion. The brain reduces the perceived distance between neighbouring objects, hence causing this discrepancy. This effect is referred to as assimilation. | |
