Funerary altar known as 'the Altar of the Scribes'. Quintus Fulvius Eunus dedicated this funerary altar to his sons Faustus and Priscus. Both were clerks of the senatorial magistrates, tasked with Rome's urban administration, including the capital's food supply. The high quality of this marble altar with its fine carving reflects the comparative wealth and elevated staus of its dedicatees. This scene shows clerks and officials at work. The lower panel shows a crowd of petitioner spleading their cases to these officials. | |
