Light micrograph of a section of human brain tissue of a young child showing paediatric medulloblastoma. This refers to a cancerous type of brain tumour that develops in the cerebellum, a part of the brain near the base of the skull. Medulloblastoma can spread to the central nervous system (the brain and spinal cord). Most brain tumours in children are the medulloblastoma type and most commonly diagnosed in children between ages 3 and 4 and between 8 and 10. It tends to be slightly more common in boys than girls. These tumours are very sensitive to treatment and can often be cured with chemotherapy. | |
