Light micrographs showing human mammary epithelial cell (HMEC) cultures grown in bioreactors. Figure A shows a breast duct element from a patient susceptible to breast cancer that was then used to produce an outgrowth of cells were cultured (Figure B). The lower figures show HMECs in early (Figure C) and late (Figure D) full-cell contact growth. The HMECs will help model the growth of tumorous and healthy breast tissue in space.
