17th century oil painting entitled 'The women of Rome gathering at the capitol' by Danish-Dutch artist Pieter Isaacz. It depicts women protesting at the Roman capitol against a supposed ruling that men could have two wives. This was a false rumour spread by a young child called Papirius standing on the left hand side of the painting in between his mother (wearing yellow) and senators (wearing red). | |
